Business Development Manager - SME Sales
Hybrid | North West England | £70,000-£80,000 base salary + Uncapped commission
Our client is looking for a BDM Manager to lead its SME sales function - a team of ten remote Business Development Managers selling HR, Employment Law, Health & Safety and compliance solutions to SMEs across the UK. This is a role for someone who wants to combine genuine people leadership with sharp commercial management: building a coaching culture, protecting pricing and margin, and driving consistent revenue performance.
WhatYou'll Be Doing
- Lead, coach and develop a team of ten remote sales professionals, building a culture of accountability and high performance
- Own commercial performance: revenue, conversion, pipeline quality, average selling price, discount levels, gross margin and sales cycle
- Drive a value-led sales approach, coaching the team to sell on business outcomes rather than price
- Take ownership of pricing and discount governance, reviewing requests and protecting margin
- Run a structured coaching cadence: live call listening, call reviews, deal strategy sessions, pipeline reviews and role play
- Hold the team accountable through weekly one-to-ones, performance reviews, monthly business reviews and personal development plans
- Work closely with Marketing, Sales Operations, Commercial Leadership, Customer Success, Product and Finance
- Provide accurate sales forecasting and commercial reporting
- Proven B2B sales leadership experience, including managing remote sales teams
- A genuine coaching and mentoring capability, with a track record of developing people
- Strong commercial and pricing acumen, with direct experience managing discount governance
- Data-driven decision making, with the ability to turn numbers into action
- A confident, empathetic communicator, able to hold difficult performance conversations and influence stakeholders across the business
- Experience forecasting and managing pipelines with accuracy
- Experience in SaaS or professional services
- Experience selling subscription or recurring revenue services
- Knowledge of SME sales environments
- Familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce
This is a genuine leadership role: full ownership of a ten-person remote sales team, with the autonomy to shape coaching, pricing discipline and commercial approach. It's built for someone who wants to combine people development with commercial performance management, and who's looking for a platform to grow into wider commercial leadership within the business.
