Are you a highly organised, analytical and compassionate professional with excellent communication skills and a passion for safeguarding vulnerable people? We are seeking a Safeguarding Referral Officer to join our Prevention Hub at Nottinghamshire Police.

What you’ll do
  • Receive, assess and prioritise child and adult safeguarding referrals based on risk and urgency.
  • Act as a key point of contact for partner agencies making safeguarding referrals to the police.
  • Research police systems and prepare accurate information‑sharing responses and reports.
  • Assess safeguarding concerns and identify when immediate action is required to protect vulnerable individuals.
  • Participate in multi‑agency discussions and meetings, including MARAC and MAPPA processes.
  • Provide safeguarding advice and guidance to police officers, staff and partner agencies.
  • Manage referrals relating to allegations against professionals and provide specialist guidance where required.
  • Ensure information is shared lawfully and in accordance with legislation, policies and protocols.
  • Support safeguarding investigations through research, referrals, briefings and administrative tasks.
  • Experience of handling sensitive, confidential or intelligence‑based information.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding‑related legislation, including GDPR, Data Protection and Children’s legislation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess information and identify risk.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience using databases and IT systems accurately and effectively.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions and elevate concerns appropriately.
  • A professional, trustworthy and discreet approach when handling sensitive information.
  • GCSE Grade 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths, or equivalent relevant experience.
