Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager – ERM

We are seeking a Principal Consultant to assist with client development, new business development, and industry awareness. This position requires prior consulting experience and FERC experience and focuses on energy projects with responsibility for permitting and compliance for Natural Gas Act-regulated projects, including natural gas transmission and LNG. The role requires an understanding of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and related energy and environmental policy.

This position can be based anywhere in the U.S.

The Principal Project Manager will collaborate with ERM teams to provide industry-leading service to a portfolio of clients, participate in industry working groups, and cultivate new business opportunities.

Projects are fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse; the successful candidate must manage varying priorities to deliver high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage large and complex projects, single or multi-site, on time and to budget including scope, budgeting, resourcing, planning, coordination, and health, safety, and risk management.
  • Act as client point of contact, lead an interdisciplinary team to support environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting, and environmental compliance services during construction and operations.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, including major natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration facility projects.
  • Generate technical proposals, identify new leads, and participate in business development with existing clients.
  • Lead strategic meetings with regulatory agencies to address regulatory and/or legislative requirements such as state siting review applications.
  • Engage with key regulatory agencies, including FERC, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, EPA, federal land management agencies, and State Historic Preservation Offices.
  • Contribute technical and project management expertise to environmental critical issues assessments and overall quality control review.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related natural resources science field. Or equivalent experience.
  • Prior consulting experience is required.
  • 6+ years (10 years preferred) of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience on FERC-regulated projects, including consulting for private-sector clients.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing the permitting of large natural gas and LNG projects, including oversight of complex FERC applications.
  • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations including NEPA, Clean Water Act Section 404, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10, National Historic Preservation Act Section 106, and Endangered Species Act Section 7.
  • Experience with federal, state, and local permitting.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise, accurate technical documents.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for conveying complex technical knowledge to clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.

Compensation: annual base pay $129,195 – $152,500 (USD); annual discretionary performance bonus.
