This is a varied, hands-on role within a close-knit engineering team, ideal for someone with experience in machine build, mechanical assembly and workshop-based engineering support who enjoys working on bespoke equipment from build through to test and installation support.
The Role
As Mechanical Fitter, you will play a key role in the build and support of bespoke special-purpose machines and automated equipment. The role will involve a mixture of fitting, assembly, machine rectification, testing support and occasional customer/supplier interaction, both in the UK and overseas.
Key responsibilities will include:
Mechanical fitting and assembly of special-purpose machines and automation equipment
Supporting machine build, testing and commissioning activities
Carrying out rectification work and small machining tasks using manual workshop equipment including milling, turning, drilling and grinding machinery
Assisting with machine improvements and engineering problem-solving activities
Working with pneumatic and hydraulic systems at a basic/intermediate level
Supporting visits and liaison with customers, suppliers and subcontractors where required
Contributing to the continuous improvement of internal engineering procedures and systems
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
At least 3 years’ experience in an engineering / manufacturing environment
Previous experience building or assembling special-purpose machinery, automation equipment or bespoke mechanical systems
Good hands-on mechanical fitting and workshop skills
Basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
A tidy, organised and proactive approach to work
Willingness to travel overseas occasionally for short periods if required
An engineering qualification such as ONC / HNC / apprenticeship / equivalent would be advantageous
A full driving licence would be beneficial
