Main duties of the job

Come and join our friendly, professional and caring community midwifery team at George Eliot Maternity Unit.

We are a forward thinking maternity unit where we offer amazing care to women and their families, whilst caring for each other at the same time. Being led by a supportive management team we value all members of the team and their ability to provide excellent patient experience at all times.

As a maternity unit we are innovative and offer excellent opportunities for further career development. You too can help us make a difference. As one of our valued community midwives you will be responsible for a caseload of women and will be part of our on call system to provide care to our women opting for a home birth.

We are positively promoting the better births vision to provide women in North Warwickshire continuity of care throughout their pregnancy, labour and postpartum period. Successful candidates will work as part of our teams in both the community and/or the hospital setting. The need for a skilled flexible workforce is vital to ensure we meet women's needs and ensure that our midwifery teams are able to keep their clinical skills up to date.

We have excellent in house training and close links with Coventry University for our post registration courses.

Job responsibilities
  • To be able to work in all areas of midwifery practice according to service needs.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the community & hospital setting, recognising any medical, obstetric or neonatal problems that arise and referring women or babies to the appropriate medical support.
  • As required dependant on rotation allocation participate in a community rota and in the 24hour on‑call system
  • Develop and maintain the clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide individualised, clinically effective, evidence based midwifery care, as reflected within the Scope of Professional Practise and to be competent in the following Midwifery led care
    Neonatal and adult resuscitation
    Supporting women choosing to labour and give birth in water
    Supporting breast feeding in line with the trust policy
    Perineal repair
    Interpreting cardiotocograph recordings
  • To work in partnership with the midwifery team and managers reporting problems/concerns relating to clinical practice.
  • To ensure that all policies and procedures relating to drug storage, administration and record keeping are adhered to.
  • To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based car for the women and their families.
  • To act as an advocate for the women ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.
