- A dedicated Neonatal Governance Nurse is essential to support the delivery of safe, high-quality neonatal care through robust clinical governance, quality improvement, audit, risk management, education, and compliance with national standards.
- NHS England's recommendations for neonatal services highlight the importance of strong governance structures to monitor patient safety, improve outcomes, oversee incident learning, support regulatory requirements, and drive continuous service improvement., This role will provide dedicated leadership for neonatal governance activities, including the coordination of clinical audits, investigation of local risks and patient safety incidents, dissemination of learning from incidents, complaints, and reviews, and the development, implementation, and regular review of neonatal guidelines to ensure they remain evidence-based and aligned with current national recommendations.
- The post holder will represent the service at Network and LMNS governance meetings, facilitating the sharing of learning, emerging risks, patient safety incidents, and best practice across organisations to enhance regional awareness and improve outcomes for babies and families.
- Through effective monitoring of quality metrics and embedding lessons learnt into practice, this role will strengthen organisational assurance and support staff to deliver the highest standards of safe, effective, and family-centred neonatal care.
- The Clinical Risk, Governance and Audit Neonatal Nurse will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a safe, high-quality neonatal service, working closely with the Women's and Children's Risk and Governance Manager, Neonatal Matron and wider multidisciplinary team.
