Based in the North of Warwickshire, youll spend around 75% of your time developing PLC software in the office and 25% supporting installation and commissioning activities across customer sites in the Home Counties. Travel is project-based, with commissioning phases typically lasting between 4-6 weeks. Key aspects of the PLC Software Engineer role include;
Developing PLC and HMI software using Siemens TIA Portal Designing structured PLC software using IEC 61131-3, primarily Structured Text Working on full project lifecycle automation projects from initial software development through to commissioning and customer handover Commissioning and optimising multi-axis motion control systems Configuring and tuning servo drives and motor control systems Integrating industrial communication networks including Profinet, EtherCAT and OPC-UA Supporting the development of remote monitoring, diagnostics and IoT-enabled control solutions Assisting with the implementation and validation of machine safety systems to IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 standards Working closely with electrical design and mechanical engineering teams to deliver complete automation solutions Site travel will typically account for around 25% of your time, mainly across the Home Counties, with occasional commissioning phases lasting 4-6 weeks The successful PLC Software Engineer will have;
Strong Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming experience - this is essential Experience developing PLC software using Structured Text Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a similar engineering discipline would be advantageous Some Beckhoff PLC experience would be beneficial but isnt essential
Experience of machine builders, OEMs, automated warehousing, logistics, conveyors or material handling systems would be highly desirable Good understanding of industrial communication networks such as Profinet and EtherCAT A willingness to travel within the UK during commissioning phases Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers during project delivery The successful PLC Software Engineer will be joining a growing UK engineering team with an excellent pipeline of automation projects.
Youll work on technically interesting machinery, gain exposure to the latest control technologies and play an important role delivering bespoke systems from concept through to successful commissioning. The role is commutable from Coventry, Hinckley, Tamworth, East and North Birmingham, Leicester and Rugby.
