Assurance Experienced Associate
BDO USA is seeking an Assurance Experienced Associate to prepare financial statements with disclosures, apply basic areas of GAAP, and document, validate, test, and assess various control systems. The role may also involve reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.
Responsibilities- Apply knowledge of GAAP principles to client transactions and provide support with authoritative literature.
- Draft basic financial statements with disclosures.
- Research intermediate accounting areas and form independent opinions on treatment.
- Document and validate operating effectiveness of client internal control systems.
- Apply BDO audit manuals to audit theory, skepticism, and testing strategies.
- Complete documentation of BDO work papers and ensure work follows BDO methodology.
- Research authoritative sources and apply findings to target issues.
- Contribute ideas and opinions to engagement teams.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of internal accounting controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes‑Oxley, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for all levels.
- Ability to multi‑task, work independently and as part of a team.
- Solid analytical, diagnostic, and project management skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics; or Bachelor’s in another field and CPA certification.
- Master’s in Accountancy preferred.
- One or more years of prior audit experience, public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services.
- Eligible to sit for CPA exams upon starting employment and actively pursuing completion.
- CPA preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools.
