Embedded QT Developer

CNH in Oak Brook, IL manufactures and develops tractors and construction equipment for the agriculture and construction/mining industries. The team is responsible for the electronic displays and guidance systems for tractors, controlling many elements including implements and autonomous functions.

The team is transitioning the display platform from an Android/Java-based system to a Qt/C++/Linux-based system. Much of the work involves rewriting applications from Java to C++, re-architecting middle layers, and redeveloping business logic and UI components.

• Work with Senior Engineers to establish weekly goals.
• Design display and guidance systems in C++.
• Interface with Systems Engineers to refine requirements and solutions.
• Design new feature sets for the platform.
• Help with Linux device development.
• If candidate has Qt, contribute to architecture decisions.
• Perform unit tests on code to identify bugs.
• Utilize networking for communication with the vehicle (CAN, LIN, etc.).
• Devote 60‑80% of each workday to development.
• Example tasks:

• C++ conversion from Java.
• Customer‑facing code down to register and clock cycles.
• Data on communication bus and transmission to tractor.
• Stability related to data latency issues.

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of embedded application development experience.
• Strong experience in C++.
• Java experience is a plus.
• Qt experience is a plus.
• Experience with object‑oriented and multithreaded systems is a must.
• Experience with Linux is a plus.
• Experience with SQL/Postgre
  
  SQL is a plus.
• Must have experience with hardware or systems. Candidates who have only developed a website on Tek Systems will not be considered.
• Must have experience with communication protocols/networking such as CAN, LIN, RS‑232, RS‑485, Ethernet, USB, etc.
• GIT experience is a plus.
• Must have strong communication skills.
• Experience from the automotive industry is a plus; experience at companies such as Motorola, RIM/Blackberry, etc. is also valued.
