The STAT team is a group of critical care trained professional nurses available 24/7 for any hospital or medical college issue. They provide specialized care to patients, staff, and visitors requiring acute medical attention at AMCH and Albany Medical College. Team members also educate staff, patients, and families to recognize clinical deterioration and perform proactive assessments for at-risk patients. They conduct MOCK code training for staff to improve outcomes in emergency situations.
STAT Nurses respond to:
- Code stroke, Thrombectomy, STEMI, 10, Anesthesia Emergency, Blue, Malignant Hyperthermia, Pink, Rapid Response pages
- Questions about hospital policies, procedures, or patient care
They evaluate and treat patients using problem-focused physical exams and protocols, stabilize decompensating patients, manage ICU patients on the floor, facilitate patient transfers to higher care levels, and assist visitors and staff after emergencies. They administer IV push medications (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone, Hydralazine) and utilize protocols like ACLS for various emergency situations such as oxygen desaturation, chest pain, arrhythmias, bleeding, hypertension, lethargy, hypoglycemia, and anaphylaxis.
Education Requirements:
Graduate of a professional nursing program with current RN registration in New York State.
Experience:
At least three (3) years of recent ICU clinical experience in relevant patient populations. BLS/ACLS certified.
Communication
Skills:
Effective communication with patients, families, staff, and others. Active listening, message clarification, consensus seeking, problem-solving, negotiation, conflict resolution, and proper documentation are essential.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to identify problems, analyze data, draw conclusions, and interpret instructions in various formats.
