Project Overview

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first‑of‑a‑kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

UPF will be a multi‑year, multi‑billion‑dollar project and will be a first‑of‑its‑kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y‑12 missions. When complete, UPF will replace a 70‑year‑old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future. The UPF Construction project works on various schedules with differing start times, and may require employees to work overtime, weekends, and/or night shift when a business need arises.

Eligibility for this position requires U.S. citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of U.S. citizenship to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete a security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Job Summary

In this role, you will monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement, through the coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff. Your field supervision will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely. You will be responsible for the safe, on‑time, on‑cost, first‑time‑quality completions of Electrical systems.

Bulks are substantially complete and this role will take us over the finish line on Startup‑Scoped System completions. Managing punchlist details and familiarity with Lock Out / Tag Out will be key for success in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Monitors and organizes subcontractor activities, through coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff within the area of responsibility.
  • Role supports projects of moderate complexity and few stakeholders involved.
Planning / Productivity
  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
  • Develops planning construction methods and procedures.
  • Develops projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
Safety / Quality
  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.
  • Implements and enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.
Technical
  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
  • Coordinates engineering solutions with subcontractors, and foremen and craft professionals.
  • Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5‑8 years of relevant experience or 9‑12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is required.
  • Candidates shall be self‑starters, highly motivated, require little to no supervision, and be able to excel in a team environment.
  • Candidates shall have previous experience leading, mentoring, and managing large construction teams.
  • Candidates should have a good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASME, as well as NQA‑1 requirements.
