Job OverviewAmentum is looking for a Structural Engineer – Seismic Specialist to join our growing engineering team at our Oak Ridge, TN office. The role involves overseeing contractor daily work for concrete, steel, and foundations, performing structural design calculations and evaluations, and ensuring quality, schedule, and cost. The position is client‑facing with emphasis on planning, field oversight, inspections, scheduling, general design, design change disposition, and procurement tasks.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert in structural and seismic analysis for commercial, industrial, and nuclear facilities.
- Apply advanced techniques including Soil–Structure Interaction (SSI), seismic code interpretation, and specialized structural design tools.
- Contribute to diverse projects—from commercial buildings to nuclear material facilities and Small Modular Reactor (SMR) designs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, resilient, and innovative engineering solutions.
- Deep technical knowledge in structural engineering and seismic analysis.
- Experience with nuclear facility design is a strong plus.
- Ability to work independently and lead technical efforts on high‑impact projects.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Sole U.S. citizenship required to comply with government customer requirements.
- B.S. in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited school.
- 15+ years post‑education experience.
- A PE or SE required with ability to obtain a new state license as needed.
- Engineer‑of‑Record duties as assigned.
- Experience in advanced linear, non‑linear structural, soil‑structure interaction analysis and generation of floor response spectra. Demonstrated analysis for at least one project.
- Expertise with steel, concrete, and masonry emphasizing seismic design.
- Experience implementing codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC N690, ACI 349, ASCE 4, ASCE 43, DOE‑STD‑1020, NRC, etc.
- Adherence to NQA‑1 quality procedures with procedural compliance.
- Expertise in finite element software (STAAD.pro, SAP
2000, SASSI, ANSYS). - Ownership of design software validation and verification tasks.
- Competency with Microsoft Office.
- Member on Nuclear Code Committee (ASCE 4, ASCE 43, AISC N690, ACI 349 or equivalent).
- Competency in Revit, AutoCAD, or Micro Station.
- Master’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
- DOE Q clearance.
- DOE and NRC experience.
- Residence within commuting distance of Oak Ridge, TN.
- General physical requirements: intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting (≤20 lbs), carrying up to 50 ft.
- Fine manipulation and hand use required.
- Occasional travel and work near construction equipment, hazardous equipment, uneven ground; exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, extreme temperatures.
- Valid driver’s license and pre‑employment drug and background check required.
