Cryomagnetics, Inc. is an established manufacturer of superconducting magnet systems and precision cryogenic equipment serving research, industrial, and instrumentation markets worldwide. We are seeking an experienced Cryogenics Engineer who will provide technical leadership in the design, analysis, and integration of cryogenic subsystems within superconducting magnet platforms.
Position Overview
The Senior Cryogenics Engineer will lead production, development, and refinement of cryogenic components and assemblies, with responsibility spanning conceptual design through final delivery. The role requires strong analytical capability, disciplined engineering judgment, and the ability to work closely with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust, manufacturable solutions meeting Cryomagnetics’ quality and reliability standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and validate cryogenic subsystems including helium cryostats, pressure vessels, thermal shields, transfer lines, and vacuum assemblies.
- Perform thermal modeling, heat‑leak analysis, and cooldown simulations to guide design decisions and predict system performance.
- Collaborate with magnet engineering to ensure proper thermal interfaces, materials selection, and mechanical compatibility with superconducting magnet systems.
- Lead troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for cryogenic performance issues during manufacturing and field deployment.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, assembly procedures, test plans, and specifications.
- Provide technical support to internal teams and external customers as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mathematics, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience in cryogenic system design, operation, or analysis.
- Strong understanding of low‑temperature thermal behavior, vacuum engineering principles, cryogenic materials, and instrumentation.
- Ability to work hands‑on with cryogenic hardware and associated laboratory tools.
- Clear and concise technical communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with liquid cryogen systems (LHe/LN₂), including transfer, storage, and boil‑off management.
- Proficiency in helium leak detection methods and equipment.
- Prior work with superconducting magnet systems or other low‑temperature electromagnetic platforms.
- Experience performing FEA‑based thermal or structural simulations.
- Familiarity with electronics that are relevant to cryogenic and magnet systems (temperature controllers, sensors, power supplies, etc.).
- Team leadership or management experience, particularly in an engineering and/or production environment.
- Demonstrated strength in technical writing, documentation, and specification development.
- Ability and willingness to travel, providing occasional on‑site support for customer installations and field repairs, as well as attending and presenting at technical conferences.
