Summary

The NRC Licensing Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and secure use of nuclear materials and facilities. This position involves preparing, reviewing, and evaluating license applications for nuclear reactors, fuel cycle facilities, radioactive materials, and waste disposal sites. The specialist ensures compliance with NRC regulations and contributes to public health and safety, national security, and environmental protection.

Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate license applications, amendments, renewals, and transfers for nuclear facilities and materials.
  • Apply NRC regulations, guidance documents, and standard review plans to assess technical adequacy and safety.
  • Conduct environmental reviews and prepare safety evaluation reports.
  • Collaborate with other NRC staff, federal agencies, and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive licensing decisions.
  • Participate in public meetings and hearings related to licensing actions.
  • Monitor licensee compliance and recommend enforcement actions when necessary.
  • Stay current with regulatory changes, industry developments, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, physical sciences, nuclear technology, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in nuclear licensing and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal regulations (Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations).
  • Eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with NRC licensing processes (combined licenses, design certifications, early site permits).
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and integrated safety analysis reports.
  • Knowledge of nuclear facility operations and radioactive material handling.
Additional Skills
  • Excellent customer service and communications skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to deal with conflicts and stressful situations.
  • Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint.
