Director of Engineering

Have you spent your career developing complex engineering systems and now want the opportunity to lead the development of genuinely groundbreaking technology?

We're working with an innovative US technology company developing advanced laser-based uranium enrichment technology, with the potential to transform how nuclear fuel is produced.

They're looking for an Engineering Director to lead the integration, testing and development of complex engineering systems as the company progresses towards commercial-scale operations.

This isn't a position where you'll simply oversee engineering from a distance. You'll be directly involved in solving technical challenges, leading multidisciplinary teams and turning experimental technology into reliable, scalable systems.

What makes this opportunity different?

• Lead the engineering. Take ownership of complex system integration, testing and technical execution, bringing together mechanical, laser, vacuum, gas-handling and process technologies.
• Build and develop your team. Lead multidisciplinary engineers and technical specialists, establishing the processes and working practices needed to deliver ambitious development programmes.
• Stay technically involved. Work directly with engineering teams to troubleshoot complex systems, evaluate performance and drive improvements.
• Take technology towards commercialisation. Oversee engineering development, installation, commissioning and testing as the organisation works towards industrial-scale deployment.
• Make a genuine impact. Play a leading role in developing technology that could strengthen the US nuclear fuel supply chain for decades to come.

What experience would make you a good fit?

• You'll bring significant experience leading complex engineering programmes, ideally involving mechanical, process or integrated industrial systems.
• You'll have a strong technical foundation, alongside proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering projects through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing.
• Experience with laser technology, vacuum systems, gas handling, chemical processing or other advanced engineering environments would be particularly relevant.
• A background in nuclear or uranium enrichment would be advantageous, but isn't essential. We're equally interested in engineering leaders from other technically demanding industries.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can combine technical depth with leadership — someone comfortable making engineering decisions, developing people and getting complex systems working in the real world.
