Cytogenetics Technologist
The Cytogenetics Technologist will examine preparations for fluorescent in situ hybridization evaluation (FISH), correlating clinical information with morphologic findings on slides, and render an assessment on specimens pending final diagnosis by a pathologist.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Screens and interprets FISH specimens for benign and neoplastic processes under the supervision of pathologists.
- Prepares and processes FISH specimens.
- Conveys information to the pathologist and maintains department documentation.
- Conducts QA correlation review.
- Assists supervisor in meeting department regulatory agency requirements (CLIA, etc.).
- Performs quality control procedures per protocol and completes necessary documentation.
- Documents all diagnoses in Vital Axis.
- Performs bladder FISH tests.
- Performs other laboratory and office duties as assigned by manager.
- B.S. in Biological Science or related degree.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a Cytogenetics position.
- ASCP certification is required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Bladder FISH test experience highly desirable.
- Ability to multi-task, be self‑motivated, reliable, and accountable in meeting timelines.
- Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.
- Well‑versed in writing SOPs and Quality Control documents.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service/relations skills.

Physical Requirements For The Job- Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.
- Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination.
- Sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work that changes in distance from eyes.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 lbs.
