Infrastructure Operations Center Systems AdministratorThe Digital Services Infrastructure and Operations Division (DSIO) in the Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD) atOak Ridge National Laboratory is hiring an Infrastructure Operations Center Systems Administrator! This position provides computing and storage infrastructure for the enterprise operations of the Lab. Additionally we provide a 24/7 monitoring operation for Critical Systems run by the Laboratory.
This role is shiftwork and rotational enabling our team to be staffed 24/7/365.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor enterprise infrastructure systems, including servers, storage, virtualization, and network-connected services, to ensure performance, availability, and reliability.
- Respond to alerts and incidents by following established procedures, performing initial diagnostics, escalating when appropriate, and assisting other operations teams in driving resolution.
- Assist with system maintenance activities such as backups, patching, and vulnerability remediation under the direction of senior staff.
- Document actions, resolutions, and shift activity to maintain clear operational records and ensure continuity across shifts.
- Support enterprise software and data center systems by executing routine operational tasks and verifying successful job completion.
- Coordinate with multiple technical teams to address issues, track operational status, and maintain accurate system and asset records.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance monitoring, documentation, response processes, and workflow automation.
- Work assigned shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, to support continuous 24/7 enterprise operations.

Basic Qualifications:
- ASdegree in information technology or a related technical field and a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience is required for consideration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Foundational knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization, networking, and operating systems.
- Experience monitoring and supporting enterprise systems or applications using standard monitoring and alerting tools.
- Basic understanding of system administration concepts such as patching, configuration, and vulnerability management.
- Exposure to data center environments and enterprise platforms.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation tools such as Power Shell, Python, or similar.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a focus on timely issue resolution.
- Effective communication and documentation skills, with the ability to clearly describe technical issues and resolutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and adapt to a 24/7 operational schedule that includes rotating shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms used to track performance, availability, and capacity across infrastructure systems.
- Knowledge of automation and orchestration concepts, with exposure to tools such as Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
- Understanding of ITIL practices, including incident management, change control, and problem management.
- Awareness of cybersecurity principles and ability to consider security implications during operational activities.
- Strong documentation and process improvement mindset with the ability to contribute to procedure development and refinement.
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, adaptability, and a creative approach to problem solving in a fast-paced enterprise operations environment.
Special Requirements:
- L clearance:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. - Visa Sponsorship:
