At Aspire People we are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our school on a daily and long‑term supply basis within Stamford and Oakham. This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will assist the class teacher and support students with additional emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them engage in their learning, develop social skills, and improve their emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities- Support students with SEMH needs by providing one‑on‑one or small group support to help engagement and behavior management.
- Implement behavior support strategies to promote positive behavior and help students manage emotions.
- Assist with classroom management, lesson delivery and creating a positive learning environment.
- Provide emotional and pastoral support to build resilience, self‑regulation and self‑esteem.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to create individualized plans and ensure students' needs are met.
- Track students' progress academically and emotionally and report to relevant staff.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural issues, or additional learning needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, building rapport with students and staff.
- Knowledge of SEMH strategies, including de‑escalation techniques, restorative practices and behavior management.
- Patience, empathy and a resilient approach to challenges faced by students with SEMH needs.
- Teamwork ability to collaborate with teachers and support staff.
- Flexibility to adapt to different classrooms, staff, and student requirements, particularly in a supply role.
- Qualification in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or related fields.
- Knowledge or experience of supporting students with mental health needs or trauma‑informed practices.
- First Aid certificate.
- Behavior management training such as TEAM‑Teach.
