Humanities Teacher - Therapeutic SEMH School
Oakham, Rutland   Start: ASAP   Full-time, ongoing   Temp to perm
Are you a passionate Humanities Teacher looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference to young people who have struggled to engage with education?
SEND Inclusion Support is working with one of our fantastic partner schools in Oakham to recruit a  Humanities Teacher  to join their specialist, therapeutic setting for young people with  SEMH needs .
The existing teacher will be leaving shortly, so the school is looking for someone who can  start as soon as possible  and provide continuity for pupils.
Importantly, there is also a  permanent position available following the initial appointment , making this a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a permanent role.
About the role  You will teach Humanities within a therapeutic environment where relationships are at the heart of education.
You will be expected to:
Plan and deliver engaging Humanities lessons

Adapt learning to meet a range of SEMH and educational needs

Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

Support pupils who may have experienced significant barriers to education

Create a calm, structured and predictable learning environment

Encourage engagement, confidence and a sense of achievement

Work closely with support staff and the wider therapeutic team

Adapt your teaching approach around individual pupils

Maintain high expectations while recognising individual starting points

We're looking for someone who:
Has QTS or a recognised teaching qualification

Has experience teaching Humanities

Has a strong understanding of SEMH

Is patient, calm and consistent

Can build meaningful relationships with young people

Is confident adapting lessons and expectations

Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication

Wants to make a genuine difference rather than simply deliver a curriculum

Experience with in an SEMH, specialist or alternative provision setting would be highly desirable, although experienced mainstream teachers with a strong interest in SEND and SEMH are encouraged to apply.
