An established engineering business is looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to join its workshop team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with strong experience in manual milling and centre lathe work
, particularly someone who enjoys producing quality one-off and small-batch components to drawing and specification.

The Role

You will be responsible for setting and operating manual milling machines and centre lathes to produce accurate components across a range of engineering applications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting and operating manual milling machines to produce components from engineering drawings.
  • Setting and operating manual centre lathes for turning, facing, boring, threading and general machining operations.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
    .
  • Selecting appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds for different materials and machining operations.
  • Using micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Producing one-off and small-batch components to required tolerances.
  • Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets quality and drawing requirements.
  • Carrying out general workshop duties, including basic machine maintenance, tool care and housekeeping.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience as a Manual Machinist
    .
  • Strong practical experience with both manual milling and manual centre lathes
    .
  • The ability to work confidently and independently from engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of machining techniques, tooling and materials.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment.
  • A strong eye for detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a workshop team.
