Registered Veterinary Nurse – Night Nurse Oakham Veterinary Hospital, Rutland

Average of 26 hours per week, worked as 52 hours every other week

Saturday to Tuesday, every other week

Saturday & Sunday 6.00pm–8.00am

Monday & Tuesday 8.00pm–8.00am

Oakham Veterinary Hospital is seeking a compassionate and confident Night RVN to join our experienced team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well‑equipped hospital offering 24‑hour in‑patient care, while benefiting from a structured rota that provides significant time off.

This role focuses on overnight inpatient care within a busy hospital environment. You will work in close communication with the on‑call Veterinary Surgeon, supporting patient care and ensuring high clinical standards are maintained throughout the night.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and caring for hospitalised patients
  • Assisting with occasional required surgeries in liaison with the on‑call vet
  • Managing client communications, with phones diverted to Vets Now while some calls come directly to the practice
  • Cleaning, restocking and preparing the hospital for the following day

There are optional opportunities to undertake occasional day shifts to help maintain and broaden clinical skills, though this is not compulsory.

About Oakham Veterinary Hospital

Oakham Veterinary Hospital is a long‑established, purpose‑built practice located on the outskirts of Oakham in Rutland. We offer extensive facilities and advanced diagnostic equipment including:

  • CT
  • Diathermy
  • Laparoscopic equipment
  • Facilities for complex orthopaedic surgery

We have a clinical association with the University of Nottingham Vet School, giving us access to leading specialists. Our team includes certificate holders in cardiology, surgery, medicine, orthopaedics and advanced nursing disciplines including anaesthesia and medicine.

We are proud to encourage and support ongoing professional development across the team.

Our current team includes:

  • 7 Veterinary Surgeons
  • 12 Registered Veterinary Nurses
  • 2 Student Veterinary Nurses
  • 3 Hospital Assistants
  • 8 Customer Care team members

We also provide referral services in cardiology and orthopaedics, offering a truly comprehensive veterinary service.
