ResponsibilitiesThe ECT Nurse is responsible for all safety and patient activities before, during, and after an ECT treatment. The nurse follows all safety practices, infection control, ECT, and hospital policies and procedures. ECT Recovery RNs work in a fast‑paced Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), recovering patients who received ECT treatments. RN duties include close collaboration with psychiatrists and anesthesiologists to deliver safe care.
Qualifications- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing – BSN preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least six (6) months in psychiatric nursing.
- Combination of education and experience may substitute for a degree requirement.
- Experience in mental health care.
- Experience in ICU, PACU, emergency room, medical‑surgical, or acute care hospital settings.
- Proficiency with cardiac monitor, AED, ECT machine, IV access, Code Blue response, nebulizer, general anesthesia recovery, suction, glucometer, malignant hyperthermia protocols, agitation and sedation scales, time‑out protocol, EKG, specimen collection (urine, blood), ACLS, BLS, CPI, and verbal de‑escalation skills.
- Customer‑service oriented attitude.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Demonstrated competency in patient care practices, medication procedures, therapeutic boundaries, common psychiatric diagnoses, infection control, fire safety, environment of care, age‑appropriate care, risk management, and patient behavior management.
- Competency in education and support, informed consent, pre‑treatment nursing care, nursing care during treatment, post‑treatment nursing care, and documentation.
- Excellent organization and knowledge of HIPAA regulations and performance improvement.
- Effective communication skills.
