Position Overview
We are a multi‑unit retail organization seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting functions with a focus on cash operations, payroll accounting, and management reporting. This is a hands‑on leadership role for a self‑starter who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced, cash‑intensive retail environment and collaborating closely with operations and one other part‑time accounting clerk subordinate.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee cash receipts, cash controls, and daily cash management across multiple retail locations
- Lead cash planning and forecasting, including short- and medium‑term cash flow projections
- Perform and review bank reconciliations, accounts payable reconciliations and other financial system controls
- Manage payroll processing and payroll accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Supervise accounting staff and ensure timely, accurate completion of assigned duties
- Prepare and review management reporting, including store‑level performance, cash flow, and variance analysis
- Support month‑end close activities related to cash, payroll, and retail operations
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
- Partner with operations and leadership to support business planning and decision‑making
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory accounting role with payroll processing responsibilities
- Prior experience in retail, multi‑unit, or cash‑intensive environments strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of cash management, payroll accounting, and financial reporting
- Proficiency required in Excel, Google Sheets, and Quick Books Enterprise, Gusto Payroll
- Candidates will be tested to assess skill level
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills to communicate with vendors, management, employees and tax officials
- Self‑starter with the ability to work independently and proactively
- Reliable transportation required to commute to Uptown Oakland
- On‑site in Uptown Oakland, 4 days per week
- Compensation: $85,000 – $100,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
- Two (2) weeks of paid vacation annually
