Senior Accountant

Our client, a mission-driven organization in Oakland, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support general accounting operations, payroll accounting, accounts payable activities, reconciliations, and month-end close. This role will play a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance, and improving accounting processes across multiple functional areas.

• Prepare and reconcile journal entries related to payroll, benefits, accounts payable, and other general ledger activity.
• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and variance analysis.
• Review payroll accounting activity, including payroll allocations, benefits reconciliations, and related compliance requirements.
• Monitor and review payroll processing for accuracy.
• Assist with accounts payable processes, vendor reconciliations, and expense reporting.
• Reconcile employee benefit plans, retirement contributions, and related liability accounts.
• Support audits and provide documentation related to payroll, benefits, and general accounting activities.
• Partner with HR and Finance leadership to improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting.

• 3+ years of accounting experience, including payroll accounting and general ledger reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of payroll taxes, payroll compliance, and employee benefits accounting.
• Experience with accounts payable, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Nonprofit and grant-funded accounting experience preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and reconciliation analysis.
