AATF plans to construct its Headquarters in Nairobi. The management would like to engage a qualified Individual Consultant to the role of Supervising Architect to provide architectural services project, in collaboration with the Project Manager’s Lead Architect and other relevant consultants for a project of this nature.
The role of the Supervising Architect is critical to the project’s overall success. In line with industry’s best practices, the Supervising Architect ensures that the project is comprehensively detailed for ease and accuracy of construction. Further, the Supervising Architect will be in charge of regular supervision of all architectural aspects of the project from start to finish.
1. Overall duties of the Supervising ArchitectWorking directly under the Project Manager’s Architect (Lead Architect), the Supervising Architect will oversee the day-to-day execution of architectural aspects of the project, ensuring that milestones are met within the agreed timelines, budgets are adhered to, and quality standards are maintained. He will also ensure that there is harmony in the drawings from all consultants to avoid conflicts during construction. The duties of the Supervising Architect will include the following:
- Production Drawings / Architectural Details: The Supervising Architect will produce a set of construction details from the Scheme Designs and Submission Drawings, which have already been developed by the Client.
- Design Coordination:
Ensuring that architectural Detailed Designs is aligned with other construction details, namely Structural Designs, Mechanical Designs, Electrical Details, Interior Designs, Landscape Details, etc. - Cost Controls. Align specifications, material selection with overall project costs in consultation with Project Manager and the Quantity Surveyor.
- Supervision of Architectural Works:
In collaboration with the Project Manager, overseeing the on-site management of contractors and subcontractors, executing architectural works, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements, safety regulations, and industry standards. The Supervising Architect will directly supervise all stages of actual construction, from foundation to finish, in collaboration with, and on behalf of the Lead Architect. - Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Ensuring that all project activities comply with local regulations, industry standards, and contractual obligations. The Supervising Architect will ensure that all site requirements by different regulators, e.g. National Construction Authority, Nairobi County, National Environmental Management Authority, Labour, etc. are strictly adhered to. - Reporting and Communication:
The Supervising Architect will report to and will execute all architectural works as directed by the Project Manager’s Lead Architect.

2. Detailed Design and Tender Action
Based on the Submission Drawings to the County, the Supervising Architect will produce tender drawings including Detailed Designs, Construction Specifications, Shop Drawings, etc. Such construction working drawings, shop drawings and specifications, must be harmonized with all other consultants outputs, including the QS Bills of Quantities, Service Engineers Drawings, Interior Designers Drawings and Specification, and landscape Architects Drawings and specifications, among others.
