Position: Graduate Residence Director at Oakland University

The Graduate Residence Director (GRD) role is an academic year live-in graduate assistant position responsible for assisting with staff supervision, administrative duties, community management, serving in an on-call duty rotation, and other related duties. Additionally, GRDs are involved in selecting, training, and assessing staff for residence life teams.

Graduate students who receive a full-time graduate assistantship are required to provide an average of 20 hours per week of service during the fall and winter semesters, as described in their graduate assistant contract.

An ideal GRD candidate must be interested in working individually with students, leading teams, developing community, and participating in departmental and university functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Academic Qualifications
  • Must have completed a bachelor's degree.
  • Must be accepted into a degree-seeking graduate program. Students planning to take courses for a graduate certificate program are not eligible.
  • Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled in at least 8 credits for the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate coursework must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must maintain good academic standing with at least an overall 3.0-grade point average.

For more information, please reference our Graduate School’s website.

Those required by their academic program to participate in field experience/internships, which require a significant time commitment, will need prior approval from an Assistant Director for Residence Life.
