Salary range: a reasonable range for this position is: credit-bearing courses: $1,500 to $5,000 per section; non-credit: 10-30% of enrollment fee per enrollment

Beginning January 2026 through December 2026

UC Merced Professional & Continuing Education is seeking experienced and qualified candidates to provide instruction in closely related fields of World Languages. Courses may be offered in academic credit and non-credit options.

• Elementary Spanish II
• Elementary Chinese (Mandarin)
• Elementary Chinese II (Mandarin)
• Intermediate Chinese

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers.

UC Merced Professional & Continuing Education anticipates hiring multiple part-time instructors for the courses listed above throughout the year based on the course sections scheduled and/or planned.

Part-Time UNEX Instructors are hired on an as‑need basis with a start date within one year from this job posting. Hired instructors may remain eligible to teach for up to 5 years on an intermittent basis.

Basic qualifications

• A master’s degree in a relevant field, such as foreign languages, linguistics, language education or in a closely related area.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the closely related field or publish research in the closely related field
• Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge in the designated topic area

Preferred qualifications

• Experience teaching or providing professional development in the closely related field
