Temporary, Part‑time Instructor (ESL/ESOL)
The Peralta Community College District invites applications for a Temporary, Part‑time Faculty position in the ESL/ESOL discipline.
Application InstructionsTo apply, submit a completed online application that includes a resume, give an overview of your teaching experience in a cover letter, and upload transcripts, applicable certificates, and letters of recommendation (optional). Follow the steps below.
- Submit an Equivalency Application Form with full supporting documentation if you believe you meet the required qualifications through equivalency.
- All non‑U.S. transcripts must be accompanied by a certified evaluation/translation document.
- Provide transcripts that include the degree awarded and confer date. Transcripts missing this information, or applications without transcripts, will be disqualified.
- A minimum of a Master’s degree must be conferred at the time of application. If you are completing a Ph.D., submit your conferred Master’s transcript.
- Applications and attachments will only be accepted through the online process. The District does not accept mailed or faxed applications or confidential letters of recommendation.
- Travel expenses for the interview and selection process will be borne by the candidates. Skype and phone interviews are not permitted.
- Appointment to the position is conditional upon the approval of the Chancellor.
- Possession of a Master’s Degree in TESL, TSOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or Education with a TESL emphasis.
- Or possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the above fields or any foreign language with a TESL certificate.
- Or a Master’s Degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language.
- Or a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in ESL/ESOL.
- Or equivalence qualifications as determined by the Equivalency Committee.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college staff, faculty, and students.
- Additional teaching experience and subject‑specific certifications.
- Experience teaching adult or ESL populations.

The District offers voluntary fringe benefits to temporary, part‑time faculty, including the ability to subscribe to medical and dental insurance in the District’s group coverage program and sick leave under certain conditions.
