About The Elevate Teacher Residency
The Elevate Teacher Residency is a one-year, paid teacher credentialing program that combines hands‑on classroom experience, university coursework, and personalized coaching to support aspiring teachers on their path to the classroom. Developed in partnership with local schools and university partners, the residency places candidates in Bay Area classrooms as they earn their California teaching credential.
By developing diverse, community‑connected educators, Elevate helps build a thriving and sustainable educator workforce—ensuring more students learn from great teachers who understand and reflect their lived experiences, inspire them to reach their full potential, and set them on a path toward a bright future.
The OpportunityBased on the apprenticeship model, teacher residents are placed at an Elevate partner school, co‑teaching and learning alongside an experienced mentor teacher for an entire academic year. The program blends on‑the‑job learning with integrated coursework through a partner university to earn a California teaching credential.
At the same time, residents engage in cohort‑based professional learning, receive job‑embedded, individualized coaching and feedback, and get ongoing support to build their instructional skills and confidence, complete their credential requirements, and be prepared to enter the classroom as a highly effective first‑year teacher.
As an Elevate resident, you will spend a full year learning from an experienced mentor teacher, gaining hands‑on classroom experience, and getting to know the school community, all while earning a paycheck and your credential.
