Base pay range

$/yr - $/yr

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage design tasks for transportation engineering and planning studies
  • Prepare conceptual designs that are accurate, feasible, and visually engaging
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for transportation engineering projects, including complete streets, bikeways, traffic signal, signing/striping, and lighting projects
  • Develop scopes of work and fees for multi-disciplinary traffic engineering design projects
  • Manage direct client interaction and communication with members of the public through community engagement
  • Market and bring in new projects by nurturing client relationships, preparing proposals, and presenting in interviews
  • Perform field work, such as site review preceding design, and support during construction
  • Mentor and train colleagues and receive mentorship from senior staff
Qualifications
  • 4-10 years of experience in transportation engineering
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or a related major
  • California PE license in Civil Engineering, or ability to obtain through reciprocity within one year
  • Experience applying Caltrans, MUTCD, and AASHTO design standards
  • Experience developing construction documents (final design, PS&E) for traffic engineering projects
  • Understanding of complete streets, including separated bikeways, protected intersections, and roundabout layout
  • Familiarity with signing, striping, and traffic signal plans
  • Familiarity with safety countermeasure selection and design
  • Familiarity with mobility issues and the Safe System approach to safety
  • Experience leading proposals and nurturing client relationships
  • Interest and experience mentoring and training staff

  • Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification
  • Traffic Engineer (TE) certification
  • Passion for listening to and engaging with diverse communities
  • Quick-build project design and implementation
  • Active transportation planning and design
