Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Geologist for employment for a variety of environmental projects (i.e., Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Actions) for the Federal sector. The candidate will have at a minimum a BS in Geology, Engineering, or Environmental Science with a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects.

The successful candidate will research and solve technical problems in accordance with accepted practice and methodology. The individual will report to and be guided by one or more project managers and senior technical staff in the execution of field work at projects sites, and assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in both the field and office settings.

The individual will work on both field and office tasks. In the field, the individual will use established technical approaches and methods to collect data. In the office, the individual will work independently to evaluate the data and present the results for less complex projects, and support more senior staff in the technical analysis and reporting for projects of greater complexity.

With greater experience, the individual will analyze issues and develop solutions to technical problems. The individual will gain knowledge from direct experience and working with more senior staff and gain increasing responsibility to apply their technical knowledge and experience to implement strategies and support design and delivery of products to meet customer and business needs.

The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Conduct surface and subsurface investigations that employ soil borings; test pits; well installations; soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling; aquifer testing; and borehole and surface geophysical surveys.
  • Examine and describe soil samples and interpret geologic and hydrogeologic conditions.
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform subsurface drilling investigations to determine the presence and extent of contamination in soil and groundwater, and vapor in soil pore-space matrices.
  • Be proactive in recognizing and appropriately addressing health and safety issues for the entire team.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals for small and moderate scope projects.
  • Work independently with a minimal to moderate level of guidance and work effectively as a team member.
  • Assist project managers with budget and scope preparation, development of work plans, and overall coordination of a variety of project management tasks related to new and on-going projects.
  • Assist more junior staff members with aspects of their job or grow to coordinate activities of a small team.
  • Drive quality control for assigned tasks or segments of a project.
