Principal Project Manager (Transportation Infrastructure)

The role of Principal Project Manager (Engineering) is at HDR where you’ll lead multidisciplinary teams on transportation infrastructure projects. You will work with transportation agencies, local municipalities, and regional partners to deliver projects with multi‑modal transportation elements, managed lanes improvements, safety improvements, and grade separations. The position requires experience with Caltrans project development processes and various delivery models such as design‑bid‑build, design‑build, and CMGC.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close‑out).
  • Responsible for any project assignment regardless of size, visibility, number of disciplines, technical complexity, or number of staff.
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
  • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule.
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure work is completed within agreed‑to budget and schedule.
  • Work with Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures.
  • Supervise large project staffs and act as mentor for less‑experienced Project Managers.
  • Lead pursuit of new project opportunities and lead proposal development efforts in a Contract or Project Manager capacity.
  • Lead and/or support client development for specific transportation clients in the Northern California area, working in collaboration with Market Sector Leads, Business Development Leader and Client Development Leaders.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Developed business relationships with Federal, State, and regional agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading project pursuits.
  • PMP certification.
  • Participation with industry organizations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 15 years related experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years project management experience.
  • Requires a professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:
    Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be a plus).
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills.
