Overview
WSP is searching for an Assistant Vice President, Environmental Planning for the Southern California geography, based in Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, Oakland or San Francisco. This key strategic role strengthens WSP’s transportation planning practice locally and supports growth with major public agencies such as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Caltrain, cities of San Diego and Los Angeles, Southern California Association of Governments and others.

- Grow market share to position WSP as a trusted advisor.
- Coordinate local client engagements and cross‑sell initiatives with Local and Regional leadership.
- Represent WSP at civic and industry events, conferences, and forums such as AEP, APA, WTS, and the Chamber of Commerce.
- Integrate a comprehensive suite of services across all end markets for complex challenges.
- Leverage global SMEs with Business Line Leaders to deliver innovative client solutions.
- Create a collaborative work environment that values inclusion, diversity, and creative thinking.
- Emphasize employee training and development.
- Promote strong employee engagement and morale.
- Support Safety, Sustainability and Ethics & Compliance programs.
- Optimize client and employee experiences through regular reviews and process improvements.
- Drive innovation and collaboration to maintain and improve quality.
- Develop local growth, forecast and business development strategies with Business Line Leaders.
- Resolve conflicts and internal/external issues affecting staff, clients and projects.
- Coordinate with leads and specialists in other business lines, especially Transportation & Infrastructure, to engage in projects and pursue broader staff support.
- Collaborate with Local Business Lead to drive business, assess and suggest improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures and focus on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Leverage technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.
- Develop new and emerging innovations to remain trusted thought leaders.
- Advance the regional strategic direction for sustained growth.
- Encourage and support local staff technical and professional development.
- Track federal environmental law and policy changes, evaluate implications for projects, pursuits and staffing.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Public Policy or related discipline, or equivalent experience in the A/E/C industry focused on infrastructure projects.
- Experience with professional environmental services as a consultant or client, developing scopes of work, directing work, issuing or responding to RFPs or RFQs.
- Demonstrated leadership, personal accountability, persistence, and growth.
- Ability to innovate and rethink conventional approaches to client and employee engagement.
- Strong business acumen.
- Sound decision‑making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities.
- Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the local area, including the ability to lead pursuits and proposals.
- Commitment to internal and external client service.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Essential professional licensure/certification.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $99,100 – $176,550
