Company Overview

Nevados is the premier solar‑tracker company for PV power plants built on sloped and rolling terrain. We offer innovative all‑terrain trackers paired with a comprehensive software suite in an integrated technology platform that optimizes solar performance, improves plant reliability, and respects the natural landscape. Headquartered in Oakland and backed by institutional capital, Nevados is transforming utility‑scale PV deployment with our tracking solutions and partnership approach.

Position Overview

We are developing a suite of control‑system devices and software products that enable the reliable operation of our trackers. As part of the Controls team, the Systems Electrical Engineer will be responsible for end‑to‑end development of new control‑system devices, integration into the overall system, and ongoing development, improvements, manufacturing, and technical support for existing devices. Although Nevados is remote‑first, the Controls team requires at least 50% of the time to be spent at the Nevados headquarters in Oakland.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and validate motor control for tracker actuation, including torque/speed/position loops and fault handling.
  • Develop, review, and iterate power electronics and low‑power designs for outdoor, ruggedized environments.
  • Specify, integrate, and validate battery systems and BMS.
  • Work with the firmware team to embed diagnostics and telemetry to enable remote monitoring, root‑cause analysis, and predictive maintenance.
  • Analyze fleet telemetry to quantify performance, identify anomalies, and drive corrective actions.
  • Collaborate on tracker control algorithms and system safety interlocks.
  • Define test plans; execute HIL/SIL, bench and field validation; perform FMEA; close the loop with firmware/hardware changes.
  • Work across teams to ship robust designs and scalable updates.
  • Author specifications, schematics, test reports, design reviews, and field investigation summaries.
Qualifications
  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in relevant disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory, sensor fusion, and safety/fault management.
  • Data‑analysis experience with time‑series telemetry (SQL, Python, JavaScript, dashboards).
  • Experience designing outdoor/industrial products: ingress protection, thermal design, lightning/ESD, surge protection, reliability testing.
  • Familiarity with industrial communications protocols (CAN, RS485/Modbus).
  • Proven field support and root‑cause analysis skills, including structured problem solving and clear documentation.
Preferred Experience
  • HIL/SIL tooling, motor dynos, oscilloscopes, power analyzers.
  • Standards/compliance: UL/IEC, functional safety concepts, EMC testing.
  • Embedded development background; comfortable reading/modifying C/C++ firmware and interpreting low‑level signals.
Benefits & Total Compensation Package

We offer a competitive base salary, bonus, commission (if applicable), and stock options commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full‑time employees and their eligible dependents receive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability, and voluntary life insurance. Additional benefits include 401(k) participation, unlimited PTO, generous sick leave, paid company holidays, and more as we continue to grow.

Equal Opportunity Employer

We’re committed to building a team that reflects a variety of backgrounds, identities, and perspectives. This includes uplifting women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others who are underrepresented in cleantech and the broader tech industry. Nevados is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to be comprehensive and thorough to ensure the best fit for both the candidate and our team. It typically entails 3–5 conversations over the course of 3–4 weeks, although the timeline and format may vary based on the role and availability of team members.
