Job Summary
The Associate Mechanical Engineer performs professional-level mechanical and process engineering work supporting complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, this role involves hands-on design, technical analysis, project planning, and coordination within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. Assignments focus on mechanical and instrumentation systems across treatment facilities, pumping plants, pipelines, hydropower facilities, buildings, and related infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Mechanical and Process Design- Conduct site investigations and collaborate with internal stakeholders
- Prepare mechanical and process design drawings, specifications, and calculations
- Design and analyze systems such as pumps, piping, valves, chemical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical equipment
- Perform engineering analyses including hydraulic analysis, pump and valve sizing, and ventilation calculations
- Use 2D and 3D computer-aided design tools for mechanical and process design
- Apply engineering software for scheduling, hydraulic modeling, and spreadsheet-based economic and technical analyses
- Respond to requests for field inspections, evaluations, and engineering calculations
- Provide technical support to engineering, operations, and maintenance teams
- Review contractor and vendor submittals for technical compliance
- Define project objectives, scope, cost estimates, feasibility, and schedules
- Coordinate project resources and prepare supporting documentation
- Support project development, control, and interdisciplinary coordination
- Prepare clear and accurate engineering reports, memoranda, and correspondence
- Communicate technical information to diverse audiences including engineers, operations staff, agencies, and the public
- Participate in and lead meetings
- Present technical proposals, reports, and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders
- Bachelor degree in an ABET-accredited mechanical or related engineering program or a California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate
- Four years of professional mechanical or related engineering experience following degree completion
- Active California Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE) license
- Valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to perform field inspections and site work requiring physical agility
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered when supported by documented evidence demonstrating the required level of responsibility and technical expertise.
