Electrical Engineering
Los Angeles, CA (On-site, 5 days/week)
· Full-time · $130K–$150K
We’re partnering with an early‑stage space infrastructure startup to find a hands‑on Electrical Engineer II to own the power systems for their newest spacecraft.
About our clientOur client builds infrastructure for space. Their latest program is a modular power plant in orbit: satellites and spacecraft will be able to connect to it and draw power. The program has major government grant funding and strong investor interest. The founding team has spaceflight experience from leading space agencies, launch providers and human spaceflight programs. The company is still small, so you’d be on the ground floor of a program that could change how spacecraft are powered.
The roleYou’ll be the hands‑on owner of the spacecraft’s electrical power subsystem, taking it from a smallsat demonstrator to flight. This is an individual contributor role for a space‑native engineer who is comfortable with very high‑voltage systems, battery health and how electrical components behave in the space environment. You’ll need the ownership mindset to take on problems and run with them on your own.
What you’ll do- Own the electrical power subsystem (EPS/PCDU), including power generation, conditioning, distribution and battery systems
- Design high‑voltage power management and distribution (PMAD) systems that run reliably in vacuum, accounting for plasma charging, magnetosphere interactions, corona discharge and electrical breakdown
- Manage high‑voltage battery state of health and make sure electrical components work together reliably across the spacecraft
- Take hardware from a smallsat demonstrator to flight through bread boarding, schematics, PCB layout, bench testing and debugging
- Guide electrical hardware through assembly, integration and test (AI&T) and environmental qualification
- 4+ years of electrical engineering experience on spacecraft or space flight hardware (EV, defense or other non‑space power experience alone won’t be a fit)
- Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage power systems and battery state of health in space applications
- Understanding of space environment effects on electrical systems, such as plasma charging, corona and breakdown in vacuum
- Experience owning electrical hardware end to end, from schematic and PCB through bench test and qualification
- Comfort working as a hands‑on IC on a small, fast‑moving team
Altium, KiCad, SPICE, schematic capture, PCB layout, EPS/PCDU, high‑voltage PMAD, DC-DC conversion, battery management systems, solar arrays, EMI/EMC filtering, thermal‑vacuum testing, radiation design, AI&T
Details- Base salary of $130K–$150K
- On‑site 5 days a week in Los Angeles
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
