The scores and dispositions of candidates for this examination will be merged with previous exam participants. A new score will replace the current disposition if you reapply.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE: A properly completed supplemental questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the last day for filing. Failure to submit will result in disqualification.

The mission of the Alameda County Probation Department is to protect public safety by providing supervision services, support, and opportunities to clients on behalf of the people of Alameda County through quality supervision, leadership, and effective partnerships.
THE AGENCY
The Alameda County Probation Department is an essential element of the county’s system of public protection and human services. The department reduces the impact of crime by providing accurate, comprehensive, and timely information and recommendations to the courts, offering community‑based sanctions and treatment for offenders, and working cooperatively with law enforcement and community organizations.

THE POSITION
Under direction, you will supervise and guide a unit of Deputy Probation Officers engaged in activities such as pre‑sentence investigations, home supervision, supervision of adult or juvenile offenders, or out‑of‑home placement of wards of the Juvenile Court, and perform related work as required. Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
- Equivalent of five years of full‑time experience in a Probation Department classification equal to or higher than Deputy Probation Officer II, or
- Equivalent of five years of professional full‑time correctional casework experience at the level of Deputy Probation Officer II in a probation, law‑enforcement agency, parole agency, or correctional institution.
Substitution: Possession of a master's degree or higher may substitute for two years of required experience.
Special Requirements:
- Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
- Possession of an automobile may be required.
- Good driving record per DMV negligent‑operator guidelines and qualification for automotive insurance.
- Must meet minimum Peace Officer requirements (Section 1031 Government Code).
- Applicants do not need to be U.S. citizens but must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law. (Per SB 960.)
- Any felony conviction is disqualifying.

The Civil Service Commission may modify the above qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
