Licensed Vocational Nurse Overview
The Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) - Schools plays a critical role in promoting the health and well‑being of students within the educational setting. This position involves providing direct nursing care, managing health records, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, and supporting a healthy and safe learning environment.
Responsibilities- Direct Patient Care:
Provide direct nursing care to students, including administering medications, treatments, and first aid as needed. Monitor and assess health status and promptly address concerns. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the overall well‑being of students. - Health Record Management:
Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date health records for all patients. Document health assessments, treatments, and other relevant information while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy laws. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the school nurse, teachers, and administrators to address students' health needs. Participate in IEP meetings for students with special health considerations. Communicate effectively with parents regarding the child's health status and coordinate follow‑up care as needed. - Medication Administration:
Administer prescribed medications to students in accordance with school policies and protocols. Monitor and document medication administration, ensuring accuracy and adherence to medical orders. - Emergency Response:
Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to medical emergencies on school grounds. - Health Promotion:
Support health promotion initiatives within the school, including wellness programs and health education. Provide information and guidance to students on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and preventive care. - Professional Development:
Stay informed about current healthcare trends, best practices, and regulations related to school nursing. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. Maintain required certifications and licenses. - Other Duties as Assigned.
- Current LVN/LPN license in the state of practice.
- Current CPR or BLS certification.
- Experience working with children or in a school setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant health laws and regulations.
- Pay Rate: $39.07
- Contract Length (weeks): 56
