Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Geologist for employment for a variety of environmental projects (i.e., Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Actions) for the Federal sector.

The candidate will have at a minimum a BS in Geology, Engineering, or Environmental Science with a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects.

The successful candidate will research and solve technical problems in accordance with accepted practice and methodology. The individual will report to and be guided by one or more project managers and senior technical staff in the execution of field work at projects sites, and assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in both the field and office settings.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct surface and subsurface investigations that employ soil borings; test pits; well installations; soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling; aquifer testing; and borehole and surface geophysical surveys.
  • Examine and describe soil samples and interpret geologic and hydrogeologic conditions.
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform subsurface drilling investigations to determine the presence and extent of contamination in soil and groundwater, and vapor in soil pore-space matrices.
  • Be proactive in recognizing and appropriately addressing health and safety issues for the entire team.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals for small and moderate scope projects.
  • Work independently with a minimal to moderate level of guidance and work effectively as a team member.
  • Assist project managers with budget and scope preparation, development of work plans, and overall coordination of a variety of project management tasks related to new and ongoing projects.
  • Assist more junior staff members with aspects of their job or grow to coordinate activities of a small team.
  • Drive quality control for assigned tasks or segments of a project.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in geology or relevant geological science discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, or geochemistry)
  • 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of environmental remediation and investigation experience
  • Master of Science degree in geology or relevant geological science discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, or geochemistry)
  • Demonstrated experience with site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites.
  • Demonstrated experience applying geological knowledge to monitoring and subsurface investigations in field and office settings.
