Assignment

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Police Department is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and security-focused Revenue Protection Guard to join our team. This important role is responsible for safeguarding District cash, personnel, and assets during the collection, handling, and transportation of revenue. Revenue Protection Guards focus specifically on guarding cash and managing security during revenue collection activities.

This role requires a high level of responsibility, as guards are authorized to make situational decisions regarding the protection of cash and crew safety.

The most qualified candidates for this position will have highly developed competencies in the following areas, which will be reinforced with related work experience and will be clearly articulated during the selection process:

  • Security and Threat Management - Expertise in assessing and mitigating risks to ensure the safety of personnel, cash, and assets.
  • Crisis Management and Decision-Making - Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure situations. The ability to act swiftly and effectively in emergencies, making critical decisions to safeguard lives, cash, and property.
  • Conflict Resolution and De-escalation Skills - Ability to interact with patrons and the general public in a firm, professional manner, including during confrontations or disputes. Demonstrates tact, patience, and clear communication to defuse tense situations, while maintaining authority and ensuring compliance.
  • Communication and Reporting - Excellent communication skills for maintaining constant contact with District personnel, dispatchers, and law enforcement. The ability to prepare clear, accurate, and detailed written reports on security activities, incidents, and operations.
  • Firearm Proficiency and Defensive Tactics - Proficiency in the safe and effective use of firearms, batons, and other protective equipment. Applies approved defensive tactics to protect oneself and others, using the minimum force necessary to ensure safety and maintain control during high-risk or threatening situations.
Other Requirements
  • Achieve Certification in Firearms and Arrest Training within six months of employment.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license, a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class A California Commercial driver's license whenever feasible to do so, at the District's discretion.
  • Class "A" drivers are required to pass an annual physical to maintain class "A" status.
  • Must pass an 832 Penal Code (arrest control, firearms) course and qualify at quarterly department range programs.
  • Selection Process

    This position is represented by the BART Police Officers Association (BPOA). The selection process for this position may include a skills/performance demonstration, a written examination, and/or an individual or panel interview. Applicants must pass each phase to progress in the selection process. The following details the various phases of the selection process:
