Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies. We are looking for a talented Staff Software Engineer with a passion for building enterprise-grade software to join the Postgre

SQL database connector team. You will focus on developing world-class enterprise capabilities and features in support of our largest and most sophisticated customers. The work is highly visible and critically important to the long-term growth and success of Fivetran. Our engineering is focused on building a world-class product that:

• Facilitates Data Analytics and delivers best-in-class schemas and clean data designed to be intuitively useful to analysts.
• Contributes to our Community by helping develop tools like Data Lakes, SQL-based Transformations, and schema explorers to empower analysts.

We emphasize using no-nonsense code and pride ourselves on the simplicity and effectiveness of the systems we build. Our back-end stack includes Java, C, Postgre

SQL, and Kubernetes, and our front-end uses React and Type Script. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Oakland, CA, with a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration (two days in the office each week).

• Lead the design, development, and debugging of enterprise capabilities enabling Fivetran’s largest customers.
• Manage and lead projects, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely and quality delivery in an iterative environment.
• Maintain and improve existing enterprise features and the codebase and infrastructure.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, performance, scalability, and reliability through rigorous testing and reviews.
• Collaborate across engineering on cross-functional projects to create innovative solutions.
• Help make Fivetran the most reliable and secure component of our customers’ data infrastructure.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and advocate for adopting new tools and methodologies to improve the development process.
• Work closely with Customer Success and Go-To-Market teams to assist in challenging customer situations and provide technical expertise to support growth objectives.
• Participate periodically in on-call rotation.

• 10+ years of experience in software with a passion for solving complex engineering problems.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, preferably Java.
• Strong knowledge of database and query performance tuning.
• Writes well-structured and performant code.
• Proven track record of leading and delivering large and complicated projects.
• Ability to define project requirements and design software and infrastructure to satisfy them.
• Experience understanding customer requirements and breaking them down into engineering tasks.
• Ability to efficiently solve problems that unlock valuable use cases for large customers.
• Ability to dive into existing code and drive improvements.
• Understanding of how to build high-performance systems and processes.
• Enjoy mentoring and growing junior developers.
• Analytical mindset to identify design flaws and drive improvements.
• Strong written and verbal English skills for complex analysis.
• Knowledge of observability tools is a plus.
• Experience with continuous integration tools such as Buildkite or Circle
  
  CI.
• Experience working in cloud environments using AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Build Kite, or similar.

• Experience in data processing (ETL/ELT) and/or cloud-based platforms.
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Expertise in Postgre
  
  SQL internals.
