Substitute Teacher

Barnstable Academy is seeking a reliable, flexible, and student-centered Substitute Teacher to join our academic community. A background in science and/or mathematics is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate is able to maintain a positive learning environment, implement prepared lesson plans, and support students in staying engaged and on task in the teacher's absence.

• Deliver and follow lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher or department.
• Maintain a structured, respectful, and safe classroom environment.
• Supervise students at all times and ensure appropriate behavior in accordance with school policies.
• Adapt quickly to different classroom settings, grade levels, and subject areas as needed.
• Provide instruction, facilitation, or guided practice across subjects; comfort with science and math coursework is a plus.
• Clarify directions, answer student questions, and assist with classwork or activities.
• Use effective instructional strategies to keep students engaged and focused.
• Communicate promptly with administrators regarding attendance, student concerns, or unexpected issues.
• Leave clear notes for the returning teacher summarizing daily progress, behavior concerns, or unfinished work.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold Barnstable Academy's standards of professionalism.
• Monitor students during transitions, lunch, study hall, or other non-classroom periods as assigned.
• Ensure student safety and adherence to school rules throughout the day

• Bachelor's degree required (education or related field preferred).
• Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred but not required.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to be punctual, dependable, and flexible with daily assignments.
