Accounting Manager

Our East Bay nonprofit client is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager on a Long-term Contract assignment. This role will provide critical leadership during a leave coverage period, supporting core accounting operations, month-end activities, and year-end audit readiness. The position is ideal for someone who can quickly step into a hands-on environment, guide a small team, and strengthen accounting processes while maintaining accuracy in grant-related financial activity.

This role is expected to pay $65-75 DOE.Responsibilities:
• Direct the monthly close process, ensuring financial reporting is completed accurately and within established deadlines
• Review journal entries prepared by the accounting team and post final adjustments when needed to maintain complete and accurate records
• Supervise a team of three accounting professionals, providing day-to-day guidance, oversight, and support across payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting functions
• Monitor grant-related transactions to confirm compliance with funding restrictions and proper accounting treatment
• Coordinate cash activity by partnering with internal stakeholders to assess funding needs and recommend account transfers as appropriate
• Lead preparation efforts for the annual financial audit and single audit, organizing schedules, documentation, and audit support materials
• Evaluate current accounting workflows after onboarding and recommend practical improvements that increase efficiency and control
• Contribute hands-on accounting support during the transition period, including participation in close activities prior to the leave coverage start date when applicable
