• Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
• Prepare pre‑qualification submissions to present clients
• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
• Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
• Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets and bid forms
• Advise on tendering procedures
• Analyze tenders and recommend awards
• Prepare construction related cost estimates, cost plans, and cost strategies
• Review and value change orders and bid analyses
• Gather proposals, blueprints, specifications and related documents for estimation
• Identify labour, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications and related documents
• Compute costs by analyzing labour, material and time requirements
• Prepare studies and plans on value engineering, life cycle costing and sustainable practices
• Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analysing information
• Present prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information
• Maintain cost database by entering and backing up data
• Prepare special reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends

• Membership in the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors
