Position SummaryAs a Sports & Adventure Head Instructor, you will provide lead instruction, oversee other instructors, and ensure a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers.
What Is Amazing About This Job- Develop, plan and supervise the summer camp program
- Deliver engaging full‑day sports programs
- Create activities that welcome shy or timid campers
- Instruct and lead specialized activities with campers and instructors
- Design schedules for the highest quality experience
- Ensure camp procedures and Appleby’s Mutual Respect Policy are always followed
- Provide leadership to instructors and maintain positive relationships with staff
- Ensure safety and supervision of all campers, staff, and visitors
- Plan and execute activities during lunch periods
- Provide progress reports and suggestions for improvement to the Director of Camp Programs
- Maintain high professionalism and public relations with participants, parents, staff, and visitors
- Adhere to Appleby College policies for all facilities, equipment, and programs
- Ensure safe drop‑off and pick‑up for all campers and maintain presence at these points
- Completed at least 2 years post‑secondary education with knowledge and experience in Sport and/or Adventure programs
- Provide top‑level instruction and support campers in evaluating drills and structuring skill development
- Balance fun fundamentals with education and skill development
- Show excellence in instruction for a specific program area
- Have relevant experience teaching sports in camp or educational environments
- Possess team‑leading abilities (leadership program completion is an asset)
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills
- Show excellent time management and organizational skills
- Have experience coaching or teaching specific sports and instruction in physical education
- Demonstrate effective problem‑solving skills
- Adapt to changing needs and circumstances
- Hold a valid Standard First Aid and CPR‑C
- Possess a Bronze Cross and/or NLS certification in lifeguarding (asset)

- Saturday May 30 & Sunday May 31, 2026 (Full Days)
- Saturday June 13, 2026 (Full Day)
- Sunday June 14, 2026 (Full Day)
- Camp Session Dates:
June 22 – August 28, 2026 - Monday to Friday 8:15 am–4:15 pm
- Mandatory Orientation:
First day of each week, 7:30 am–4:30 pm
Apply online by Monday January 5, 2026. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted. Interviews will be conducted mid‑January to early February 2026. As a condition of employment, a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and valid Standard First Aid and CPR‑C is required.
