Pickering College is recruiting a dynamic, qualified Middle School Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher. Our teachers must possess the following qualities: passion, compassion, expertise in their subject area, instructional expertise and curriculum innovation. This individual must illustrate an eagerness to become involved in co-curricular activities at the school.
Our Middle School program features a unique, interdisciplinary community engagement program called SPARC that occurs weekly. The successful candidate will be part of a team that leads a project-based experience for our students.
This position commences August 25, and ends June 12, .
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruct one section each of Grade 6 & 7 Language Arts and Social Studies and co-facilitate a SPARC project.Prepare and deliver a rigorous academic program.Demonstrate commitment to students’ academic and personal success.Differentiate for individual and small group instruction and support.Establish and maintain standards of student behaviour.Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the age and interest of the students.Collect and display educational materials and student work.Implement all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.Be sensitive to and support the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of individual students.Supervise at daily outdoor recess, lunch and outside of the classroom (i.e., during outdoor education activities, trips to the Blue & Silver farm, excursions and overnight trips).Collaborate with faculty and staff.Other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
Bachelor of EducationJunior/Intermediate or Intermediate/Senior school qualificationsOntario College of Teachers certificationStrong technology background in support of a community communication and laptop environment1-3 years of Teaching experienceESL experienceStrong oral and written communication skillsIndependent School experience is an assetCoaching and/or co-curricular experience is an assetAs a condition of employment, the successful candidate(s) must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Report.
