Role OverviewThe Lead Engineer (LE) is accountable for multi‑disciplinary engineering deliverables to our customers for custom and extended municipal treatment systems. The LE is a key member of the project leadership team, responsible for ensuring accuracy of design, scope, timeliness of submittals, adherence to the engineering budget, and overall quality.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and monitor an engineering project team, including Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineers, as well as project support functions.
- Coordinate the delivery of all engineering output for assigned projects.
- Build teams, communicate vision, delegate work, facilitate project team meetings, and resolve conflicts.
- Serve as the face of Veolia Engineering, managing relationships with the Lead Engineer, Project Manager and Sourcing Project Leader.
- Identify and implement optimized technical solutions within contractual constraints.
- Perform detailed technical calculations and selections for mechanical equipment and design.
- Own project engineering strategy, including staffing, scheduling and outsourcing.
- Lead and coordinate engineering team activities across all disciplines.
- Lead technical coordination meetings and regular engineering team meetings.
- Ensure peer review compliance and completion of all design reviews for engineering disciplines.
- Assign and oversee technical activities across engineering functions and disciplines.
- Serve as primary technical interface with customers, resolving technical issues directly.
- Drive customer approval of documentation and technical deliverables to maintain the project schedule.
- Coordinate technical submittals and follow‑up on customer comments for all engineering disciplines.
- Proactively identify technical risks and opportunities, working closely with the PM and Sourcing Project Leader.
- Strong aptitude for planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and evaluating engineering work.
- Effective communication internally across functions and externally with stakeholders.
- Ability to monitor the engineering budget and assist the Project Manager in controlling costs.
- Proven ability to lead, delegate and motivate a team.
- Risk identification and mitigation.
- Strong analytical skills to assess obstacles and implement solutions.
- Attention to detail with focus on contractual compliance (scope, schedule and budget).
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering field. - Required:
5‑8 years project experience in engineering or a related field. - Preferred:
Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) contracts. - Preferred:
Professional Engineer’s License, or the ability to obtain one within 1 year. - Preferred:
Second language (French and/or Spanish) may be practical.
- Domestic and international travel: 5‑10% of the time.
Compensation is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range provided is $85,000 – $115,000 annually, and offers may vary based on candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions.
