TheOpportunity
Junior Water Resources Engineer (EIT) to join our growing Infrastructure Planning Group in Oakville. Working alongside experienced engineers and planners, the successful candidate will support municipal infrastructure, watershed, stormwater management, flood mitigation, and land development projects throughout Ontario. This role offers a chance to develop technical expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, municipal servicing studies, infrastructure master planning, stormwater management design, and low‑impact development (LID) practices within a multidisciplinary consulting environment.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform urban water, sanitary and drainage system modelling, including data management, model setup and calibration, and system assessment.
- Support the development of infrastructure servicing plans for subdivisions, neighbourhood and city‑wide areas, stormwater management reports, drainage studies, floodplain assessments, and water balance analyses.
- Perform hydrological and hydraulic modelling and support the development of Water and Sewer Master Plans and Integrated Stormwater Management Plans, Municipal Class EA studies, and municipal infrastructure servicing studies.
- Support the development and evaluation of Low Impact Development (LID) and green infrastructure solutions.
- Provide technical analysis in support of civil engineering design associated with municipal water, sanitary sewer, drainage conveyance works and hydraulic structures.
- Prepare technical memoranda, engineering reports, presentations, figures, cost estimates, and operation and maintenance manuals.
- Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineering, planning, environmental, transportation and survey groups.
- Assist with agency submissions and approvals involving municipalities, conservation authorities, and provincial agencies.
- Additional responsibilities include client communication and management; assistance with proposal preparation; coordination with sub‑consultants, regulatory agencies, project planning, budgeting, scheduling and other project‑management tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in water resources, municipal infrastructure, or consulting engineering.
- Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, including hydrologic and hydraulic principles, stormwater management, and municipal infrastructure systems.
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to evaluate technical information and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.
- Exposure to software such as PCSWMM, Info Works ICM, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, Visual OTTHYMO, EPA SWMM, ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar engineering and GIS applications is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and engineering approaches.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
