Works Infrastructure Technician

Raise Workforce is working with a municipality within the Halton Region that is looking to hire a Works Infrastructure Technician to start as soon as possible.

The key objective of this position is to ensure all necessary data is available for defense against liability arising from the level of maintenance undertaken on the Town’s road network.

Responsibilities

Conduct regular inspections of the municipal road corridor and document and report potential hazards and deficiencies in accordance with the Ontario Municipal Act, Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

Review, analyze, and recommend amendments to inspection routing for optimization and to incorporate new or updated infrastructure assets.

Assess infrastructure deficiencies, identify and recommend rehabilitation strategies, assign priority, and direct repair or replacement to appropriate Town departments or external agencies.

Generate work orders for infrastructure repairs through the use of an infrastructure and asset management system, track repair status, and follow up regularly to ensure deficiencies are addressed within the allotted time frames specified by Regulation 239/02.

Establish and administer infrastructure and asset management systems to map and track inventories, location, condition, replacement value, maintenance history, and future needs for all road corridor infrastructure components.

Liaise and coordinate with various Town departments, utilities, adjacent municipalities, and the Region of Halton to compile and update asset information, explore work synergies, and coordinate necessary repairs.

Prepare various reports related to infrastructure assets, repair status tracking, and timeline performance.

Coordinate with the Town’s insurance adjuster, compile records and infrastructure data, and provide inspection and maintenance information in support of liability claims.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Graduate of a two‑year Civil Engineering Technician program from a recognized community college and 3–5 years of related experience, preferably in municipal road or provincial highway infrastructure maintenance operations.

Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Proficient computer and related software skills, with emphasis on MS Office, infrastructure applications, ACAD, and GIS.

Experience and knowledge of routing analysis, maintenance work orders, deficiency reports, and various construction and maintenance methods and procedures, along with the ability to interpret related regulations.

Knowledge of and familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications and Drawings, Canadian Highway Bridge Code, Ontario Municipal Act, and Minimum Maintenance Standards for municipal highways.

Strong verbal and written communication, multitasking, analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, administrative, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License, Class G minimum, with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour.
