Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lead Civil Estimator to join our team supporting some of the industry’s most challenging and high-profile projects. In this role, you will lead the development of accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale, complex projects across specialized markets, including nuclear power, uranium enrichment, and other critical infrastructure sectors.
The Lead Civil Estimator is responsible for performing comprehensive material takeoffs, cost analyses, estimate preparation, and presentation of discipline-specific estimates throughout the project lifecycle. This position plays a key role in supporting strategic project pursuits by providing reliable cost data and estimating expertise that drive informed business decisions.
In addition to project estimating responsibilities, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating practices through the maintenance of historical cost databases, development of estimating tools and procedures, and mentorship of team members. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in the planning and execution of civil construction works, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.

LocationThis position is based in Oakville, Ontario. Flexible work arrangements may be available. Occasional travel to project sites and client offices may be required.
Responsibilities- Lead the development of detailed civil construction estimates from RFP review through final proposal submission.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analyses using drawings, specifications, and other project documentation for scopes including grading, underground utilities, aggregates, environmental controls, pavements, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Develop accurate direct cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and self‑performed construction activities.
- Analyze labor productivity and crew compositions across union, merit shop, and prevailing wage environments.
- Prepare and support complex pricing deliverables, bid forms, and proposal documentation.
- Utilize and become a subject matter expert in InEight Estimating software and related estimating tools.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure competitive and complete pricing.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop construction execution strategies and ensure estimates align with planned project delivery.
- Participate in estimate reviews, risk assessments, customer presentations, and proposal strategy discussions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through historical cost analysis, lessons learned, and estimating process enhancements.
- Mentor and develop junior estimators while supporting departmental standards and best practices.
- Assist with project startup activities following contract award, including estimate turnover, cost alignment, and coordination with project controls, operations, and business management teams.
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related technology field, or equivalent relevant work experience
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in heavy construction
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to obtain OPG clearance.
- Regular, reliable attendance

- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
